Tufty
Some decluttering this morning, but the weather was much too good to stay indoors all day! So this afternoon I walked up to the Common, by the quickest route, in the hope of seeing the red squirrels again.
Walked round the circular path three times, and was amazed at the number of squirrels in the woods. Saw four where MrM and I watched squirrels yesterday, two of them mostly rooting around in the undergrowth, though one came up to the feeder for a few minutes. The other two were chasing each other up and down trees and leaping from branch to branch acrobatically - must be breeding season. On the second time round the path they were still there, plus a squirrel on the nearby feeder (he didn't stay long, but ran further up the tree to eat his peanut; extra). The third time round only a one squirrel, on the feeder on the opposite side of the circuit. Decided to head for home after that, through the car park and along the road - and for the first time in a couple of years spotted a squirrel on the feeder on the other side of the road. Seems that the little colony on the Common is doing well at present, and long may they continue. Hopefully the greys can be kept at bay, and the forestry work planned for mid-March won't disturb them too much.
