Cause for Concern

This AI selfie seemed appropriate to go with another AI experiment I conducted today.

Most will have heard of AI Chat GPT, and its accompanying controversy. I downloaded the app and asked it to write a short story in the style of Peter May. This is what it came up with (before claiming to run out of server space, in the forlorn hope of persuading me to subscribe - at 19.95 per month):

“It was summer in Provence and the heat was intense. The sun beat down mercilessly on the small town of Saint-Tropez, turning the streets into a furnace. The only relief was the occasional breeze that blew in off the Mediterranean.

The town was teeming with tourists, all looking to escape the heat and enjoy the famous Saint-Tropez lifestyle. The cafes and restaurants were full, the beaches were packed, and the nightclubs were throbbing with music.

In the midst of all this heat and activity, one man stood out. He was tall and thin, with a shock of white hair and a face that was deeply tanned. He was wearing a linen suit and a Panama hat, and he looked like he belonged in another era.

He was sitting at a small table in a cafe, sipping a glass of rosé and watching the world go by. He had a book open on the table, but he wasn't reading it. He was just enjoying the scene.

Every now and then, a woman would walk by and catch his eye. He would give her a smile and a wink, and she would blush and look away.

The man was content. He was surrounded by the sights and sounds of summer, and he knew that he was exactly where he belonged.”

What’s even more spooky is that just over a year ago we bought an apartment on the Gulf of Saint Tropez!
