Lesser spotted allotment
Embarrassed into going to the allotment after finding a present of purple sprouting broccoli on the back door step. The person we share it with has been diligently going up there every week and every now and then leaves us pickings from our abandoned beds to remind us that we do have an allotment.
It turned out to be a very pleasant evening, I dug over a couple of beds, planted lots of the 'instant allotment' plants, watered - oh the irony when the forecast for today was 'shocking' pelleted - the slugs are voracious up there, and then picked these tulips from the flower bed. They are a mix, but mostly Ballerina, which are fantastic, strong stemmed, long lasting and with the fragrance of freesias to boot.
Here they are wrapped up in a huge rhubarb leaf - the ultimate in eco-friendly wrap.
Posting this on Saturday as too knackered last night. And the forecasters were absolutely right... so I'm feeling smug, and stiff.
