Alchemist

Most of my friends will know I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to higher education as I love working in the sector and reading about what's going on. I therefore couldn't resit going to Harvard and MIT while we were in Boston. We took a cab out to Harvard Square so we could see different parts of Boston on route. We decided to take the student-led 'Historic Tour' which lasted an hour and we couldn't have picked a nicer day to see the buildings around Harvard Yard. It was interesting to hear about the history alongside current student life. The tour only goes into one building which was a shame but the guide was good at explaining the details. It was a lovely campus but not as impressive as I was expecting.

We then took the transit to MIT and after some lunch and getting slightly lost trying to find the main entrance, we joined the student-led tour. The guide was great but he did use the words 'really cool' and 'totally awesome' in almost every sentence. The campus was huge and the facilities were really impressive. The picture is of a sculpture called 'Alchemist' by Spanish contemporary artist Jaume Plensa and was created in celebration of the Institute's 150th anniversary. The sculpture consists of mathematical symbols in the shape of a human form and looks great from every angle.

I preferred MIT to Harvard but both were interesting. Packing time tonight as we are off to New York in the morning.
