an arty day
I’m a big fan of the Arts and Crafts movement and Sarah knew that I would love to visit the Watts Gallery at Compton, near Guildford. George Frederick Watts and his wife Mary lived in the village at Limnerlease, where they worked (George as a painter, Mary as a potter). The gallery is full of paintings by Watts and also works by Evelyn and William de Morgan, the pre Raphaelites and contemporary artists. You can see some of it here: https://youtu.be/ZWXapHKjWaU
The photo shows Sarah in the chapel, which is breathtakingly beautiful.
We had lunch in the cafe before returning home on the M25 (not so good).
In the evening we enjoyed more culture when we went with Chris to see “Orlando” at the Garrick Thatre, starring the very talented Emma Corrin.
It’s been a pretty wonderful day all round.
