Hot and humid

We went out for a walk mid-morning and it was extremely hot and humid, resulting in a rather slow walk.  But we stopped and looked at things that caught our attention, had a long phone chat with a friend who lives down near Wellington but used to live in Napier, and stopped to chat to a couple of workmen staring at a water leak coming from under a grass berm, who said it was about to “blow”.  They showed us how the grass was very spongy and puffed up.  They were looking at having to turn off water for the whole area.  We also had a FaceTime chat with a friend in the South Island and a phone call with two friends in Napier, both of whom are safe and well and have power back on.

The news was rather confronting again, especially as there are teams of people out searching for bodies in the silt build up and out on the water.

There were two lovely surprises in the garden today - a beautiful yellow hibiscus and a lovely naked lady (otherwise known as Amaryllis Belladonna), so called because the stalk is completely bare.
