Rugby Club III
So for the third day running I was at the rugby club, by the time the day was over I had spent a little over twenty-one hours at the club in three days.
I had a good breakfast before leaving home to arrive at the club at 9:45am, previous experience meant I knew I’d be on my feet and moving for at least six hours, if only it had been six.
I finished the preparation of the Beef Burgoyne, enough for 75, and had it gently cooking whilst I set about peeling 7kg of potatoes. Knowing that boiling potatoes to mash at home takes around thirty minutes I never expected that the same process for bulk potatoes would take a couple of hours.
Mashing them with two entire blocks of butter took some effort, the heat and dehydration meant that by early afternoon I was already tired.
The sponsors ate at 1:00pm and thoroughly enjoyed the two courses, the beef being followed by various cheesecakes with fresh fruit, clotted cream and chocolate sauce.
With ten of the sponsors guests failing to turn up I was surprised that some club members dived in for a free meal.
I had an hours respite and then the players arrived, only half of the opposition players, Penryn, entered the clubhouse to eat and socialise but that’s about what you would expect from them, they might have won but they are a club with no class. The food they never ate was given to the second XV as they returned from a win at Stithians, nothing wasted.
The Thursday Gang, cooked the food, served it up, cleared away, washed up, put everything away, cleaned the kitchen and tidied up - five pensioners had fed 70+ and left the place as we would want to find it.
I sat and enjoyed a beer or three before Mrs S picked me up at 8:00pm, shattered doesn’t cover it.
Cup of coffee with Mrs S and then bed.
