Roll With It

Aches & Pains

The early starts of Sunday mornings have become something I look forward to, known as the Rachel Row we go out with a ‘guest’ cox’n, Rachel, who teaches the Epic male rowers technique and puts us through our paces.
The Rachel Row lasts an hour and often on returning alongside some of us make up the numbers in the gigs so that as many others as want to can get out on the water.
Today we had a strong wind with an ebbing tide, not ideal but we didn’t go too far down the river.
Not so on the Club Row which followed, we set off with a relatively experienced crew but an inexperienced cox’n. The wind and tide enabled us to scoot quickly down the river, into the harbour, and out almost to the Carrick Roads. The realisation that the row back against the wind and tide was going to take some effort initially generated some excitement at a challenge but that quickly turned into a long slog back up the river.

Home, a long hot shower, and after stiffly walking Paddy for an hour an afternoon spent largely recovering on the settee with yesterday’s paper and a book or two.

I know I’m going to ache tomorrow.
