Day 3 of the deRSE23 conference was packed with workshops. It was good to catch up with the software carpentry community. 2nd workshop was about research software engineering and what it means. After 3 days of being very active I was happy to head home. On the way back I stopped in the Kaiserpfalz museum. The German kings didn't have a capital but travelled from palace to palace to secure their authority in the huge empire. Paderborn featured such a palace built by Charlemagne in the 8th century. The palace was discovered in 70ies during building work. It is now rebuilt and features an excellent museum. There is a steep flight of steps that takes you into the well cellar where one of the many springs of the river Pader is dammed before flowing outside. It is a rather magical place.
