A plane, a Bell and a stamp
Aircraft make a rather infrequent appearance in church stained glass. This biplane is by Michael Farrar-Bell. I particularly like the way the lead has been used to create the shape of the wings and fuselage. If you look really closely you can even see the head of the pilot.
Farrar-Bell was a descendant of Alfred Bell who co-founded Clayton & Bell one of the most prolific of Victorian stained glass window companies. This window dates from the late 1970s and is one element in a three roundel memorial. I assume that it commemorates someone with an RAF connection. If you are old enough you will probably have licked the back of one of Michael Farrar-Bell's other designs - the two and a half pence (pre-decimalisation) definitive postage stamp.
