Camp Hill

Calm and sunny as the spaniel and I set off this morning but, when we turned south and started heading towards Camp Hill clump, it soon turned dark and wet. The clump of Scots Pine was planted around 1825 and is probably named after one of the nearby military camps (the Forest has long been used as a training ground and as a mustering point for troops on their way to the continent). In the far distance the main ridge of the South Downs could still be seen. I only recently realised that the Ashdown Forest and the South Downs are at roughly the same height.
