Keeping time
I am notoriously unpunctual and so are some of my friends so it came as a surprise today when an old friend who used to live in the area arrived five minutes early.
That’s when `I discovered that musicians are famous for their punctuality.
“: You can’t turn up ten minutes late if you are performing. If you do you will never work again,” explained Sarah, a former double bass player
mainly with the BBC. and Scottish National Orchestra .
.
Now retired she plays for pleasure but still sticks with the discipline that a lifetime as a professional musician gave her.
(Her day begins with an hours practice on the piano before she starts painting. Sarah is also an artist and will soon be taking part in Open Studios along with the rest of us.)
I had expected her to ring to say she would be late because she had some distance to come and there was a severe frost last night.
But she had factored that in and allowed fifteen minutes to defrost her car.
Maybe I should take a leaf out of her book and learn to be punctual too.
