Ventnor
This morning we took the train from Ryde to Shanklin and then found the bus stop to take us the remaining part of the way to Ventnor. By the time we had waited for the bus we could have hopped on the bus in Ryde and done the whole journey on the bus. Still, I like the trains.
First stop was Ventnor Exchange for coffee. Ventnor Exchange is a vibrant arts and community hub located up the hill a little from the sea. The Exchange hosts a range of events, including theatre performances, live music, film screenings, and art exhibitions but we just stopped in for a coffee and, as they had some board games available, we played Battleships. I wasn’t brave enough to play chess like some of the other customers this morning. PY won.
Then we started our walk to Steephill Cove which is described as a picturesque fishing village located on the south coast of the The Island. It’s accessible only by foot, reached via a scenic coastal path that winds through the stunning clifftops, providing views of the English Channel along the way. It was really beautiful, if a little steep.
On the way back we stopped for lunch at The Spyglass Inn. We’ve been a few times and always enjoyed it as we can sit outside and watch the ships. We decided to have lunch. The menu features a range of classic seaside pub dishes, including fish and chips, burgers, and sandwiches but we both opted for the Ventnor crab sandwich which, when paired with a chilled white wine, was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
Back, via the bus and train combo, for an evening in the flat.
