The holey stone...
Not of Clonrichart (Father Ted), but a 'Holey Stone' all the same.
Poor photo however, but when you drive for 5 and a half hours to get to site and then work for another six or so hours, you don't feel up to doing much of an evening. I never thought to snap this until the sun had gone down and the light in the house was poor.
This artefact was located atop a cobbled surface in the castle. It is a weight from the bottom of a spindle whorl, a simple (and early) way for spinning wool. Made from the local the slate, the colours are lovely and it glitters beautifully.
LH also discovered a coin today, the first significant artefacts from the dig. Will post bettwer pictures when they are cleaned up in the office. The stone is about 10cm in diameter.
