2023 Thursday — Backyard Flowers
I always consider the flowers coming thru the fence from the neighbor’s yard a gift.
We arrived here at our place yesterday and found a yard that has survived the winter weather quite well. When we moved back into this house in 2018, after 24 years of living a couple miles from here, and renters having this place, we needed to do serious damage repair on both the front and the backyard. So “low maintenance” was our desire and our goal.
Our backyard is now two-thirds gravel with the best weed cloth we could buy under the gravel and one-third of the yard is covered in artificial turf, and then cement sidewalks stretch the length of the yard.
So flowers and foliage are not a norm in our yard. Unless springtime weeds are considered foliage. Even with the best weed cloth weeds grow in the dirt that does accumulate on top of the cloth. The weeds pull out very easily because they can’t grow roots. So I quickly pulled a few weeds while I was in the backyard this afternoon.
When flowers from the neighbor’s yard sneak through the fence, I enjoy them thoroughly.

P.S. Today is my mom’s 97th birthday. Mom died years ago when she was 57. Also it was 35 years ago this evening that we learned we were going to be grandparents. And finally, five years ago today my stepdad, Pops, entered Heaven.
