Another "I must do that sometime" task done

I am poor at remembering where plants are during the winter and what they are called if or when they regrow. I have taken to writing the names of things on pebbles as they make good markers.
These pebbles come in big plastic bags are are covered in dust, making impossible to write on them. In the last few months I have only needed a couple so I simply wiped the stones on my jumper or coat or trousers to clean it. Strangely a clean stone results in a very dirty jumper or coat or pair of trousers and a very unpopular wearer.
So today I have done two things to rectify this problem. I emptied all the stones into a bucket of water, washed them and put them on this plank to dry. The beautiful hues in the stones when wet disappear when dry. I am wondering if I can somehow keep the colour even when dry. The answer probably lies with Mrs. Google. If I can not do this I  might just paint them.
The other thing I did was order a boiler suit that I will wear over my cloths that  I can get as dirty as I need.
