Losing grip

The stair carpet has been down a long time - I think getting on for 30 years - and has become rather threadbare and potentially dangerous should anyone slip on it. So, today, we acted - ripped it up and levered off the stair grips,  unfortunately taking chunks of the treads with them. So, we're now looking at having to renovate the staircase which must be as old as the house , ie around 90 years. Of course we'll then need to redecorate the rest of the hall and landing as they haven't been touched for a long time either. It's about time we got to grips with refreshing the interior decoration even if we're having to lose grips to do it....
