Lake Springs Trail
We found out about this trail last Friday when we went out to eat in Augusta so today with the weather being nearly perfect for hiking (not too hot...not too cold) Jerry decided he wanted to try a longer walk on uneven terrain. The Lake trail is 3.2 miles which is the most continuous walking he has done since his knee replacement almost 10 weeks ago. He only took one hiking stick but I told him to take two hiking poles from the back of the car. He didn't and he agreed later he should have taken two hiking poles to help on the inclines and downhills. I told him so!!! Maybe he will remember it is easier to keep up a steady stride with two poles. Anyway, there were some gentle ups and downs which he does have trouble with but he did okay and was actually happy that he could walk as far as he did with only minor aggravation. Ice and mild pain meds after we got home.
The trail was actually just across the state line into Georgia. The forest was pine trees but there were wild dogwoods blooming. Not many flowers but I did see the little waxy yellow buttercup along the trail. the trail looped along the shoreline of the lake so it was great seeing the sailboats on the water as the sailing club was on the next cove over from where we were hiking.
I could hear some birds but this little brown thrush (I think) was the only one that I could get to stay still long enough for a photo. I never even used my new binoculars even though I had them with me!!!
And as usual, Nature put a heart in my vision!
We had some rain yesterday so the pollen today was not really intense but I could see it on the water in the coves. And on my boots.
Always a good day when I can be in the woods.
