Cafe Culture
We had a very relaxing day today. Apart from our usual early morning run the rest of the day was spent in rest and recuperation - especially for my brother after a long week at work. He finds the commuting up to London by train every day exhausting and his workplace has not been particularly busy which he says he finds more tiring than when he's working flat out as the days have been dragging.
He considers Saturdays a 'free hit' so we tend to have a lunchtime pint at The Fields for a good old natter, get the Saturday papers and then settle in for the afternoon with the odd glass of wine or two (o.k, maybe more than two!) and some catch-up telly.
By mid afternoon I think we'd become a bit too relaxed so we decided to head out to one of our local cafes, Base Camp, for a coffee and maybe even a slice of cake - well, there was no maybe about it. However, when we arrived the staff didn't seem that pleased to see us. They weren't due to close for another 40 minutes but one member of staff didn't seem too happy when we sat down after we'd ordered our coffee and cake as she had already started mopping the floor saying rather bluntly "watch the wet floor". Charming!
We then received our cake but no coffee. Apparently they hadn't heard us asking for coffee - which seems a bit strange when we only asked for two things! However, they did eventually rather grudgingly apologise and the cake (pecan with buttercream icing) and the coffee were both great so all's well that ends well! :-)
Today's shot is from inside the cafe as a shaft of sunlight came streaming in through the window. I just liked the shape and colour of those yellow chairs against the blue wall in the afternoon light.
