Trying To Hang On To Your Hoop Dreams

Today's shot was taken at our local recreation ground. It has courts that double as five-a-side football pitches and basketball courts. I just liked the combination of the rather worn backboard with the written warning (presumably to prohibit slam dunks) and the hoop with its dishevelled netting against that atmospheric sky.
The title came into my head when somewhere in the back of my mind I remembered there was a basketball film called Hoop Dreams. It's a 1994 documentary that follows two African-american students, William Gates and Arthur Agree, in Chicago and their dream of becoming professional basketball players. It's supposed to one of the best sports films ever made but I've never actually got around to watching it. I'm going to add it to my list of must sees.
I have seen the Netflix series The Last Dance, which chronicles the rise of Michael Jordan and the 1990's Chicago Bulls. I know absolutely nothing about basketball, you can't really watch it in the UK unless you sign up to a sports channel, but I loved it and was completely engrossed.
I've never thought about actually playing the game myself as I'm far too vertically challenged (and, who am I kidding, too old) - I'd virtually have to sit on someone's shoulders to be able to execute a slam dunk! :-)
