CHAFFINCH

I would like to say that this photograph of a Chaffinch was taken with a 600mm lens, handheld and whilst I was balanced on one leg. Then reality kicked in. My ever reliable G12, together with a bit of bread for bribery !

Back to Birds Two - Fringilla coelebs is the second most common breeding finch in the UK. As you can see, this male is also one of the most colourful.

As they fly away, look for the white flash on the wings and outer tail feathers

Part of - To A Chaffinch . . .

Chaffinch you were born to live free
Amongst the sheltery hedges and the trees
And when you feel bored your boredom you can ease
By flitting off to anywhere you please.
