The Scafell range from the summit of Hard Knott
Wainwright wrote in his book of the Southern Fells "Hard Knott is well known for three features: The pass of the same name, a Roman fort, and the view of the Scafells from its summit".
He wasn't wrong there - we parked at the bottom of Hardknott Pass, walked its entire length (that was a first) then climbed Hard Knott, went on to Harter Fell, and finished climbing Green Crag. It was saturated underfoot - a real bog-fest. The highlight was certainly the view from the top of the first fell, after which it really clouded over. After a few thousand feet of ups and downs, and 10 miles that felt more like 20, the recovery pint in the Boot Inn was very welcome.
