Landlubbers At Last!

Hooray!  This morning we finally managed to sneak around the swells and make a successful Zodiac landing on Tristan da Cunha!

We took a very interesting walk through the only town on the island, Edinburgh of the Seven Seas, with a lovely local man named Stan who showed us all the points of interest from the local supermarket to the school and hospital, to the graveyard, pub, and an original thatched cottage.

This collage shows from left to right:  Victorious Mr. W upon making landfall, the old thatched cottage which reminded me very much of similar dwellings in parts of Ireland and Scotland, our man Stan, a dramatic landscape, the island's one and only policeman posing with fellow cruisers Susan and Nancy, and the two of us being silly with the local sign.

The one and only policeman is from Yorkshire, and is just starting a two-year stint on Tristan da Cunha.  I read yesterday that there has never been an arrest on the island!
