There are many upsides to the warming of the weather in ice-bound Ottawa: desensitization of the nippular area; fewer falls onto buttocks; teeth clenched less to name a few. But there are also a couple of downsides. Chief amongst these is the onset of freezing rain and the Revelation of the Colour Grey.
As much as I try to argue that Ottawa has bright architectural spots, it is difficult to show that when surrounded by so much greyness (or is it greydom?) This mound of snow seems to have picked up every atom of pollution over the past three months (which could be seen as a positive, I suppose). It'll melt soon, and make its way to the Great Treatment Plant below the City, but in the mean time it sits in my field of vision like a terrible, not-really-distant-enough portent. It feels like Mordor - and I feel like a hobbit.
