Another early start as the minky needed whisked to ballet as the daughter wanted to avoid the other parents, still recovering from covid as she is. So a pleasant little trip to the Heart of Newhaven building and a nose round the “wee” museum - OK, and to Greggs across the way.
Then a meet up with the son in the Barony after a shift at Duck & Waffle. Good to sit and catch up - it’s been a while and he’s in good fettle. It’s also been a while since I had a Saturday afternoon beer or two and I was surprised to see how busy the place got with drinkers of all ages blethering away. These traditions are important. The church may have fallen away but we still need public places for communion. And beer.
Then a treat - tickets to the Wee Red Bar to see The Bathers, yes: a rare outing by one of Scotland’s greatest “lost bands.” I may have read that somewhere. The SK is a bit of a fan and was in a state of excitement whereas I, having given their back catalogue a listen and thinking them kind of like the Blue Nile but with songs I didn’t know, was just looking forward to the event. A slow start - Stephen McLaren - begob, probably the worst act ever, rank rotten. Then a Californian band - the black watch - storming! And finally The Bathers, stripped down to a four piece and losing the piano. Top, top, show. I think without much effort they could lose the lost band status. Mind you, there's an audience for keeping it.
