The Palais des Papes …

… in Avignon as we waited to begin a tour.

We spent nearly two hours visiting this huge building which served as the center of the Papacy for a hundred years and seven popes while Rome was considered unsafe from 1309 to 1403. It was an excellent, if exhausting tour.
