Heriot’s
This school is a “rival” to the one I went to. The “rivalry” started when my school was originally located very close to Heriot’s (founded in 1628 as George Heriot’s hospital - a charitable schools) before George Watson’s (established as a hospital school in1741) moved to the Colinton area of Edinburgh in 1932.
It is an impressive building alongside a different part of Flodden Wall (see Saturday) and it has superb views over to the castle.
I was struck by the similar planting of hellebore among the daffodils - see 20 March in Lancaster.
In any event the flowers provided a splash of colour on a grey, cold and wet day. I felt for the graduands and their families gathering outside the McEwan Hall ahead of their ceremony.
