Van Gogh

We spent a rather drizzly morning at the National Gallery in their "After Impressionism: Inventing Modern Art" exhibition. It's like a break-neck revision of late 19th and early 20th century art.  Lots of old friends, plus some new faces.  It was difficult to decide what to post, but this is a Van Gogh that I have never seen before, painted in 1888 on the Mediterranean just after he arrived in Provence. The intense light inspired him to make the colour in his paintings even more exaggerated than it had been before.  That yellow sky is amazing!
