Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Maelstrom!

We went for a walk along the Water of Leith from Bonnington this afternoon. The sky was threatening, but the weather stayed fine. It was actually quite warm walking back. The thermometer said 15° but I'm sure it was warmer in the sun. The lack of wind made all the difference.
Lots of bird life on the water, goosanders, mallards and the cute tufted ducks. The swans were around near Coalie Park and outside the Kings Wark and there were a couple of moorhens around too.
There was a slick of some sort on the water from the Bowling Green St bend so I reported that. My blip was an attempt to take a picture of it. I'm not sure what happened, it didn't look as rough as that at all. I presume it's a reflection of the sky but I thought it looked suitably abstract for Thursday. It's a shot of the water straight from the camera, no sign of any slick though so no use as evidence! The extra is a tufted duck in a spin- it made me smile!
We had coffee in Victor Hugo on the Shore, it was very quiet, but to my delight the only other customer was a very old friend I hadn't seen for about 10 years! I used to teach her son a very long time ago. She later did her training and came and worked in the school. She was my nursery nurse for several years - the dream team we reckoned! We had a very long hug to the bemusement of our escorts. We left them to have lunch in peace but it was so good to see her after such a long time.
We played online bridge this evening, it's ok but I do prefer or face to face club. Sadly that finishes for the season next Monday.
