Swindon speakeasy
A great night’s sleep. Take mum to Cobbs for lunch (soup for her, mac’n’cheese for me). Some meetings in the afternoon. And then off to see Megan in Swindon.
We eat at Mario’s, which is busy for a Thursday night. Pizza Florentine for Meg, Malanzane Parmigiani for me. And then to the Laundromat speakeasy (extra).
To get in you have to find the secret buzzer and supply the day’s pass phrase (which is “We don’t do duvets”). Inside it’s dark and cosy. There are lots of cocktails to choose from - some are old classics, others are performance in nature, with dry ice, Aladdins lamps, and fire paper.
The Old Fashioned comes with wreaths of oak smoke, and goes down a treat. The negroni does what it says on the packet - although I reckon it was not as good as Paesano’s.
I sleep, badly, on Megan’s sofa.
