Elder buds ( Sambucus niger )
Another of my Saturday "walk to the bins" shots. It is always a surprise to me that in that short walk, 3 or 400 steps round trip, I manage to find something to blip.
Today it was the new shoots on Elder which caught my eye. While I was looking for a good angle to get the 3 or 4cm long stems nicely framed, I noticed flower buds. It isn't something I have noticed before, but then again it isn't something I have looked for.
Elder is one of those plants you never know whether to call a bush or a tree. However, they can live up to 60 years and reach heights of 15m. Both the flowers and the berries are used by foragers for such things as wines and cordials..
