Inspired by houses for the workers.
Windermere owes its existence to the coming of the railway in 1847. There are many handsome large houses in the area but accommodation also had to be provided for the working people - butchers, grocers, domestic servants and shoemakers.
These solidly built houses in Cross Street, begun in 1949, were quickly occupied by upwards of 100 people.
I suspect that many of them are now occupied by holiday makers who will, no doubt, be revelling in this glorious sunshine.
