Inspired by another weather vane.
This one is on the spire of Saint James’ church in Stavely and, like so many other churches, it is a rooster.
The reason for this is that in the 19th century, Pope Nicholas decreed that all churches must display a rooster on their steeples or domes as a symbol of Peter’s betrayal of Jesus.
This being Good Friday, Peter’s story is being recalled in churches everywhere.
Once again, a crow has insisted on getting in to the picture.
