Copper Lady..autobiography
An interesting book about the life of someone I know who lives in Teddington. She was in the Met for 34 years progressing to the rank of commander and in 1986 she was one of only two senior policewomen in the Met when pro raga there should have been 25. Upon retiring she was appointed a life peer to the House of Lords and reading this book it seems she has continued to be very active on lots of committees and representing the U.K. abroad too.
Although she is now 87 she is still very with it and was a great chair person at an AGM meeting I went to recently…not standing any nonsense from difficult people!
Interesting that she joined the police as she came from a family that would not have expected that but she failed her A levels at Bedales ( through being lazy she says) so university was not an option. Most of her friends then would either become nurses, secretaries or go to finishing school!
Today we went to meet my son and family to look with them at a house they are interested in buying…if/when theirs sells. Very spacious and in good condition but very 1970’s decor including an avacado downstairs loo suite. ( if they end up buying the house I think they should keep it as an interesting feature!) it would be fine to live in and gradually update …as long as you like patterned floral carpets !
