Shrieks

A delightful relaxing morning at Tarangire before we had to vacate the tents for the next round of lucky safari-goers. More elephants, vultures, panoramic views and copious birdlife. I have nabbed one of Gugs’ pics of these grey crowned cranes, which looks like an oil painting.

By the afternoon we made it to Ngare Sero Lodge near Arusha, where I can stay for one night, but the other lucky bleeders have an additional day of the break. The lodge gives out major German colonial era restored farmhouse vibes and is situated in a beautiful setting in mountainside forest. As we walked in, one of the staff was cantering around the perfectly manicured garden on a horse, behind a croquet lawn. When I realised the clientele scattered around the grounds was diverse it reassured me that we hadn’t turned the clocks back 60 years.

We walked in the forest in late afternoon. Experiencing wildlife with Gugs is hilarious as when she shrieks with excitement you can never know whether it’s because she’s seen a leopard or some fungi. Mostly it was insects and fungi today, as well as some cool freshwater crabs and strangler fig trees.
