National Gallery of Denmark
We had a wonderful long visit to the Statens Museum for Kunst, Denmark's national art gallery, from before noon till about 4 pm.
This view is along the long, high gallery between the original building on the right, in Copenhagen's ornate red brick, and an entirely modern addition on the right, which parallels it. The addition is on a slope which falls to a long pond below, and on the ground level below there is a cafe at one end and in the middle a concert area. The audiences sit on step-like seats extending from the railing on the right in this image down to the piano/cafe level (complicated to explain; I hope you follow me).
The combination is brilliant, and the original building has been extensively refurbished, including all its galleries. We especially enjoyed the large collection of old masters, which is strong in Dutch and Flemish works (favorites of ours).
The odd-shaped metal objects (copper-colored) extending from the foreground to the background (more are below and behind us) all form part of of a full-size replica of the Statue of Liberty, by the artist Danh Vo (Vietnamese, based in Berlin). Collectively they are entitled "We the People", and many more of them are on exhibit around the world (the link is from Chicago)
