Bloomin' Chilly

Having walked much longer distances than we are used to in San Diego, survived a very cramped (though short) plane ride, home, and having earned good marks from the doctor regarding blood pressure, it was definitely disconcerting to get up this morning to a very sore knee. I have no idea why this is, but it is swollen and cranky. We went for a walk anyway and were delighted with the masses of lupin and buttercups that have come up in the field since we left less than a week ago. Spike exhibited his springing skills as he bounced after his Kong. I caught him in a more contemplative mood amongst the buttercups.

It's been  mostly a day of catching up on laundry, restocking the larder and the usual tasks that await the return from a trip, even a short one. We had a bit of surprise rain in the night last night, but the skies were clear and the newly leafing out trees sparkling in the sunshine. A hawk landed on the porch rail, clearing the bird feeders in an instant, while I read an article in the paper about a flightless male bald eagle, living in a bird sanctuary had been sitting on a rock for some weeks. Fortunately for all concerned, a newly fledged baby that had fallen from its nest was brought into the sanctuary and is now being raised by the adult male with maternal instincts.

For the record, I'm adding a few pictures of the inside of the Hotel del Coronado which I wrote about on Saturday.
