Inspired by a jigsaw puzzle.

I regularly check the charity shops for an interesting jigsaw puzzle. This one appealed to me. It illustrates the siege of Canterbury in 1011 as depicted in a medieval stained glass window in Canterbury Cathedral.
I’m puzzled as to what it is the Anglo Saxons are throwing over the battlements. Sausages? Loaves of bread? That doesn’t make much sense to me!
