St Andrew's Church, Letheringsett
H and I walked to Letheringsett this morning. We had a coffee at the flour mill and then walked along to the church which has this attractive round tower. There are a lot of round tower churches in Norfolk and apparently this is because it is easier to build a tower of that shape with the local pebbles. Hewn stone, necessary for the corners of a square one, was hard to come by.
If anyone is interested, an extensive history of St Andrew's Church can be found here.

The extra shows a couple of fragments of stained glass which belong to the fifteenth century school of East Anglian glass painting. Their origin is unknown but for over a century they filled a window in a summerhouse in the gardens of the adjacent Letheringsett Hall (now a care home). They were placed in this window in August 1958.
I'm happy to say that the cold wind that has plagued us for what seems ages seems to have abated today and I was actually warm by the end of the walk.
