ANZAC Day

April 25 is a special day for most Australians and New Zealanders, the day we honour the men and women who have served their respective nations in the military and of course, those who gave their lives.
Following the dawn service each year, it’s a tradition of the Blackheath Rotary Club to hold our golf day, our biggest fund raiser for the year. The day concludes with a commemorative service overlooking the 18th green, including a bagpiper playing as he walks up the fairway and a young bugler giving a magnificent rendition of the Last Post, all carried out in what was otherwise total silence - incredibly moving!
Barry and Sherlie, members of our Rotary club sang the NZ national anthem, the first half being in Māori then everybody joined in when it turned to English. On the right is Dino, the vice president of the local RSL who served in the RAN for 32 years.
A hugely successful day in so many respects.
