Meanwhile Fiona and Ali are, you may remember, in Amsterdam having a wonderful break. Fiona WhatsApp me to tell me what she is having for lunch today: ‘Vermeer special milkmaid’s pudding, which is brioche bread and butter soaked in milk and anise with dried fruits baked with jam and a light custard-type sauce and a viola on top.’ €6.50. Now you wouldn’t get that in a British museum café.
