Wild Arum

I spotted this freshly sprouted wild arum plant this morning - I liked the light shining through the green spathe, and the dark purple spadix.

Flies are attracted to the plant by a strong scent…and they slip down the ‘funnel’ into the little receptacle at the bottom where the ‘real’ flowers exist. There they are trapped and do their job of pollination - later in the year the familiar columns of bright orange/red berries on stalks will develop.

Thanks to some clever blippers the mystery skull from yesterday would appear to be from a rat, not a rabbit as I thought.
