Tulip Time

A very good evening at the AGS N Wales Group show at the Bangor University Botanic Garden at Treborth, just outside Bangor.  A beautiful day for a drive, almost 2 hours to get there, a lot of super plants on display and I met some interesting people.   There were some great displays of tulips in the garden, none better than these Tulipa bakeri on the rock garden.  An extra shot of a purists high alpine plant, Androsace vandelii.

It was the first show for four years so there was uncertainty about how many folk would turn up and how many plants would be entered.  Any expectations we had were exceeded.  The University students who were enlisted by the garden to help set things up and provide refreshments were both helpful and interested.  There were quite a few visitors from outside the AGS too.   I had taken assorted plants and photos to enter,  with no great expectation of success, so it came as a surprise when I won the Trophies as the most successful exhibitor both in the alpine section and across the whole show - extra pic.   Quantity over quality yielding results!   It was all great fun.

Other news is a bit worrying.  Ruth is in hospital.  A GP appointment saw her sent off to hospital, tests there have yet to be resolved, Sepsis now ruled out we think but an auto-immune problem is suspected which is a concern.  Thankfully, with support on hand every day, she's not gone through this alone.  Hoping the morning will bring better news.

TBH the days blip might have been titled 'Let Sleeping Dogs Lie' .... see the third extra pic :-)
