Hawthorn (windswept)
Just back from an art opening at BAM (Ballydehob Art Museum) which was co-founded by my pal Robert. Tonight they launched an exhibition on the Verlings who arrived here in the 60s when Ballydehob was the Irish equivalent of Swinging London - really! It was swarming with creatives including the Verlings, a painter and ceramicist broadly. The windswept thorn tree was one of John Verling's iconic images and after we'd admired the exhibition we wandered up to the church which has stunning stained glass windows designed by him. In fact he was responsible for the whole altar area . Robert writes about him here and includes a photo of the church. It was getting too dark for me to take a decent photo when we were there.
