Wheel Nuts, again
Back to the school where I used to work for the annual car show, Wheel Nuts. The rain held off, just, and GG and I enjoyed strolling among the cars, while she pointed out all the amazing vehicles her parents used to own. I was looking for a Ford Consul Cortina estate (the family car when I was a child) but never did find one.
(My grandfather did have an MG. When he gave it up, he had it sent it over by ferry to Belfast during the 1970s when we lived in Ireland, for my father to collect. We lived in Dublin at the time. My father never did collect it. Apparently it was eventually blown up while waiting in a Customs shed. I don't know if that was even true: our father was a rather odd man, and maybe he just couldn't be bothered to go and fetch it, and used the Troubles as an excuse).
GG and I went to the park after we'd done the car show, then after about 15 minutes, she suddenly announced that she needed to go to LIDL to do her shopping, before going to a party. We went to LIDL. I bought some olives, and a load of other things.
We then went to the birthday party. The food was lovely, but we were crammed into a long, narrow house with everyone sitting down. In groups. To move around I had to keep stepping over people's feet and breaking up their conversations. One woman, P, seemed a bit out of it, so she and I went out into the tiny garden, but then other people started coming out too, and the rain started...
GG and I left at about 2.30. I got home and decided to continue experimenting with cooking with lemons. I made ginger biscuits, and dunked their bottoms briefly in lemon drizzle syrup. Listened to the new series of Uncanny on BBC Sounds while cooking. Had some egg white left over, so rustled up some spiced almonds to use it up. Steve tasted the biscuits, and liked them. I'd eaten too much raw mixture by that point.
Much talk about a birthday party at GG's on Thursday. I've decided to go to Buddhist meditation instead, because it's important for my sanity. I will bake a cake, and send it up with a colleague. Perhaps I can even break free of the obsession with lemons, and make an orange one instead.
