Fishermen, Embleton Bay
Alas it was not to be. The weather turned foul overnight and we awoke to the threat of heavy rain. During a drier spell we rashly decided that we would go ahead with the planned walk from Craster in a loop along the coast to Newton-by-the- Sea and back to Craster. Heavy rain dogged us on the outward journey necessitating a lunch stop under the veranda of an unoccupied seaside hut high on the dunes overlooking the beach while water cascaded off the roof.
The afternoon improved and we were able to walk back to Craster along the beach where these fishermen were trying their luck in the pounding surf.
Throughout the day the outline of Dunstanborough Castle followed us, partly obscured by mist making a very interesting backdrop to the photographs.
Being Susan's birthday we repaired to a local hostellry that evening to celebrate her day and our wet walk.
