Beyond My Wildest Dreams
Today was packed full with highlights. It was almost overwhelming. The sunrise was spectacular being at first pale pinks then intensifying to bright corals. I have written a lot and included extras but it is my journal :-)
Some of the team went for a kayak or a snorkel. After her kayak the lovely daughter went for a swim and did a nice dive from the duckboard at the back of the boat. While everyone was busy I played close up camera with the shells people had collected yesterday. It was Tiny Tuesday after all.
On his snorkel the forester fulfilled a dream to gather oysters. I believe this is the only place in the fiords where you can do this. My dream was to eat them. I have never had fresh oysters from the sea. They are more delicate and sweeter than when you buy a pottle in a fish shop Crewman Brad opened them and we had them before our lunch. After that taste sensation I would have been happy with a cheese sandwich. Gemma had other plans. This morning the wings and frames from yesterdays cod catch had been put in the smoker and Gemma with a little help from Markos artistically arranged them on a board. Each morning Markos makes bread dough and today he made fluffy rolls flecked with dried seaweed. There were two salads and out group just sat stunned looking at the feast and this was only lunch.
After lunch the rain came in as we motored down the sound and passed the wreck of the SS Stella in North Harbour. It was a bit rock and roll down the coast but it wasn't long and we were back in the shelter of Preservation Inlet. The skipper found a calm anchorage at Broken Shore Bay There was dinner which started with oysters on the half shell and kina row, followed by crayfish tails, hasselback potatoes, two salads and then homemade Banoffee Pie!
