Flying saucers

Lesson of the day: Do not try and pre-plan blip.

It was all meant to be so simple. We've recently been given English Heritage membership so the plan was simple. K was going to meet his son for coffee in the morning while I worked in hydro and then we were going to go to Apsley House and Wellington Arch. A surfeit of blip opportunities there surely. Simples.

The first bit of the plan worked. Well I managed the work bit and K did the coffee drinking bit. It went off plan when K decided he needed to go to Divertimenti and instead of heading towards SW London where I was coming in from, chose the Marylebone High Street store. He's not massively au fair with London so didn't realise it was quite such a pain in the neck for me to get to or that Baker Street was likely to be thronging with football fans.

It turned out to be a glorious day; beautiful Italian meal followed by mooching through lots of interior design shops. However, once we were laden down with pasta plates and a large pan, the cultural bit didn't seem like such a good idea. So simple trip back to Putney to get the car and then head home for the Champions League Final. Er no. That journey takes us past Twickenham. At approximately the final whistle. I may have mentioned that we might be better taking the A3. I may have mentioned it more than once.... To be honest, it wasn't that bad considering which is a good job because apparently I'd been too vague in estimating the time of the final whistle. Lucky really that we'd had such a good day or bickering might just have ensued.

It wasn't until the second half of the football that I realised that I'd been so focused on an Apsley House blip that I'd walked past so many other great opportunities. D'oh!

And then, flying saucers to the rescue. Or rather a display of Zulu wire baskets from the Conran shop. It wasn't intended for blip at all, I just took the photo to message my Mam but then I singularly forgot to take any other photos. They brought me a small basket similar to these back from South Africa a few years ago. They're fashioned out of telephone wire and are unusual in that they're woven from the rim in. Typically, they're quite zany colours although mine is at the tamer end of the spectrum. Even though she'd bought a few she didn't know what the photo was! They do appear rather flattened by the angle and the way they've been displayed. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
