No 4-Way Stop?
We know the roads in these medieval villages are narrow..but we marvelled at this intersection of four of them..and not a stop sign in sight!
Mind you, we have not seen many stop signs at all in this area..and not a single traffic light! But then, there are roundabouts, so who needs traffic lights? And ...the traffic in this area isn't really traffic ....It is a few cars now and then, with the occasional annoying one who is desperate to pass you.... but one could hardly call that "traffic"!
For one who lives two blocks from a busy major 12-lane freeway back home in Canada, this is heaven!
We stayed pretty close to home today..spent some time meandering around two local villages...The first was La Fouillade which is our most frequent destination as it has an intermarché, a great bakery, a butcher and a gas station right on the highway.Today we ventured into the centre and poked about.. checked out the mairie, the post office, the little library,( open three days a week and where they offer free wifi.) and of course, another bakery(!) where we indulged in tartes epinard et chèvre..yum.
The second village is Saint André- de-Najac, (extra) the one we can see from our laneway - over on the hill across from us. It is a charming little village..with the usual church of course, very narrow one-car-width lanes, beautiful old houses with ivy covered walls, tumbling and climbing roses and carefully tended gardens ..oh yes and two cats...at least two..and that 4-way intersection!
The one thing these small villages seem to have in common is that there is seldom a person to be seen...Today was an exception - we saw three men getting their daily baguette in the bakery of La Fouillarde and a lovely friendly woman who owned one of the cats in Saint-André-de-Najac!
Can you spot the two Saint-André-de Najac cats?
