Time to replant
I visited the local garden centre this afternoon, determined to do a recce before M returns.
Well, I had heard from friends how prices have shot up but nothing prepared me for the scale of it.
I had to go and sit down and have coffee. Any decent size of small shrub or perennial is eye-watering expensive.
No, I was not intending a spending spree just planning some basic replanting.
The true devastation of the winter, heavy frost followed by wet weather, are now clearly visible as the garden comes back to life.
Gone are the cordylines, New Zealand flax, and echiums to name but a few. Even the sturdy clematis took a severe battering and we still don’t know if it will survive. Actually echiums are supposed to be wintered indoors but we thought with climate change they would survive.
What have survived are trusty azaleas and rhododendrons
